In November 2008, Vale Newfoundland & Labrador Limited notified the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador of its decision to select hydromet technology for use in the processing plant. to be built in Long Harbour, Newfoundland.
Initial construction of the Long Harbour Processing Plant began in April 2009. Vale Newfoundland & Labrador will use contractors to construct the facility at Long Harbour. Once contractors have been retained, they will recruit their own workforce to complete work scopes.
People who are interested in pursing construction employment should contact the Newfoundland and Labrador Building and Construction Trades Council (www.nlbtc.com), and they should continue to visit the Vale Newfoundland & Labrador Limited website to get more information on contract awards for all aspects of the processing plant’s construction program.
During the construction phase, there will be a project team overseeing the build of the processing plant. Recruitment is ongoing for that team.
The recruitment of some of the management team for the operations workforce is currently underway. The recruitment efforts to fill the remainder of the approximately 475 required positions within the Refinery, Leach Plant, Site Services, Port and support functions will begin in 2012 and continue into 2013.
