Mine and Concentrator
  • Started up Power Plant

  • Aboriginal people comprise more than 50 per cent of the mine & concentrator workforce
  • 80 per cent of the mine & concentrator workforce are from Labrador; 10 per cent are from Newfoundland
  • 38 per cent of the Demonstration Plant workforce are women, the vast majority in non-traditional roles
  • Approximately 50 per cent of the Demonstration Plant workforce were recruited from the local area; 90 per cent are from Newfoundland and Labrador
Industrial Benefits
  • Newfoundland and Labrador companies received $396 million in expenditures of which approximately 60 per cent were aboriginal businesses.  
  • More than 80 per cent of operations phase contracts were awarded to businesses from Newfoundland and Labrador.
